PLANS to build new houses in Limerick have taken a major step forward this week with builders being sought to take on the project.
Some 16 homes are planned on the Towerfield site in Croom, and these will be split over two storeys, with a mixture of apartments and houses.
An advertisement for builders and contractors to express an interest in completing the project has now formally been published.
Staff of the company which comes out successful in this process – which has a deadline of Thursday, April 6 next – will be contracted to complete the construction of the development, which was approved by Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien two years ago.
They’ll also be asked to put in place drainage and surface works, alongside the roadworks which will arise from the development.
Trina O’Dea, who lives in Croom, is “thrilled” with the progress on the development.
“Croom continues to grow progressively and it is important that with that growth comes suitable and affordable accommodation to meet the needs of the local community. The voluntary housing group in Croom has been responsible for housing many local people itself and with the fast-paced progressive growth of the town, it’s important to continue that success,” said Ms O’Dea.
he added: “With amenities and services such as the new secondary school campus, our local enterprise centre, civic centre, family resource centre, primary school, childcare and popular local business along with our beautiful town park and riverside walkway, Croom is truly a wonderful place to live in and projects like this are a vitally important component to its growth and success.”
