An Bord Pleanála will adjudicate on the development
AN BORD Pleanála is to be asked to adjudicate on whether the first phase of a new housing estate can go ahead in Limerick.
It comes after the council gave planning permission to Riverpoint Construction to build 99 homes in the townland of Clonconane between Old Cratloe Road and Pass Road which leads to Meelick.
The development will see a mix of different types of houses on the land, which is currently green-space – with four-bedroom, three-bedroom semi-detached and detached homes planned.
It’s part of an overall development planned by Riverpoint for the area which will eventually see hundreds of living spaces in the area.
Five other applications for housing development in the area are currently before the local authority.
This first bid for planning permission saw 36 groups and individuals write to council, mainly in opposition to the plans.
Three of these have now objected to the national appeals body.
Many of the submissions centred around the potential for localised flooding as a consequence of the scheme, alongside the proposed design of the estate, and the changes in the surface layout of the road through.
In their original objection to the council, one couple who have since escalated the case to An Bord Pleanála asked: “The ongoing development on the Old Cratloe Road of drainage and sewerage installation should be completed this year. Will this development be capable of absorbing the demands that this housing development will bring?”
Another questioned why no children’s play equipment is included, while a third said given the size and scale of some of the homes, the plan runs contrary to the European Convention on Human Rights, and a householder’s entitlement to privacy. A decision is due by June 6 next.
