LIMERICK'S William Martin has been named chairperson of the Coach Tourism and Transport Council of Ireland (CTTC).
The well-known businessman from Annacotty, who is the director of Martins Coaches which was set up by his father Richard in 1973, was appointed to the role at the organisation’s annual general meeting last month.
Mr Martin has been a member of CCTC, which provides a voice to independent transport operators in Ireland, since 1994 and has served on its executive council since 2008.
He’s successfully chaired, organised and ran the national industry event, the Coach and Bus Show since 2009, with more than 2,500 people visiting Dublin’s RDS for its last outing.
Mr Martin has operated Martin’s Coaches in the city for a number of decades having succeeded his father in the business, which marks its 50th anniversary this year.
“I am honoured and delighted to have been elected chairperson of the leading coach and bus operators representative body in Ireland, the CTTC. To follow in the footsteps of many leading lights in the industry is an enormous privilege and one that I do not take lightly,” he said.
He takes over the role of chair from John Halpenny.
The CCTC is based in Baggot Street in Dublin city centre.
