Limerick councillors represent at New York St Patrick's parade

LIMERICK councillors put their best foot forward last weekend as they represented the Treaty County at the St Patrick's Day parade in Queens, New York.

Olivia O'Sullivan, Cathaoirleach of the Metropolitan District of Limerick led the delegation from Limerick City and County Council at the Queens County St Patrick’s Parade in Rockaway Beach.

Councillor Liam Galvin joined Cllr O'Sullivan on the trip. Cllr O'Sullivan thanked those involved in the parade as well as the local community for their "warm welcome" at the event.

Michael Benn, the president of the parade committee, is a proud Limerick man who emigrated from Clare Street in the city when he was 15.

While at the parade, Cllr Galvin and Cllr O'Sullivan also met NY State Attorney General Letitia James, an American lawyer and politician.

The parade is the second biggest St Patrick's Day parade in the state after the New York City parade.
