A FUNDRAISER has been launched to make alterations to the home of a Limerick teenager who has been diagnosed with an aggressive and incurable cancer.

Scott Coscoran, from Martinstown, was given the life changing-news on February 3 when doctors discovered a tumour on his spine.

The 18 year-old attended hospital in December with numbness in his foot that he and his family originally thought was a trapped nerve.

The following week, after an MRI, surgeons found the tumour and he was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he underwent major surgery to have it removed.

During the 10-hour surgery, surgeons were able to remove 90% of the tumour and it was hoped that the young man would soon be on the mend.

Sadly that was not the case and the former Scoil Pól, Kilfinane student and his parents Mary and Brendan, along with his brothers Adrian and Noel, were told the devastating news that he has stage four cancer.

Scott will now need extensive treatment and his family are trying to bring him back home to Kilmallock.

The soccer-mad teenager previously played for Castle United and hurling for Coshlea Gaels.

Mary's family have now started a fundraiser to help modify their home to make it wheelchair accessible so Scott can live independently and comfortably.

They are raising funds to help with day-to-day living so that they can spend all their time with Scott as he has a long hard road ahead. So far, more than €30,000 has been raised.

The Coscorans are also planning to purchase a suitable vehicle to get Scott to and from his treatment on a daily basis.

On the family's fundraising page, they took the opportunity to thank everyone from “the bottom” of their hearts for taking the time to donate.

“All donations big or small would be greatly appreciated if you can't donate please share.”

You can donate to the fundraiser on idonate.ie by searching for Mary Coscoran.
