A GUARD of honour was performed by students at Catherine McAuley school in Limerick city to welcome a special visitor.
Minister for Special Education and Inclusion, Josepha Madigan, held discussions with staff during her visit to ascertain how she and her department can assist the special education school in the future.
“This is where I really get my great feedback. I can see what is working, what is not working, and if there are additional supports needed,” she told the Limerick Leader/Limerick Live.
Facilitated by principal Greg Browne and Senator Maria Byrne, the minister took a tour of the specialised school, which caters for 260 students, both primary and post-primary, who range in academic abilities.
With a catchment area beyond county bounds, vice principal, Joe McCarthy, discussed the importance of their resources for the children.
“Here they thrive,” he explained. “The supports and staff are here, and they will hopefully reach their full potential because of that,” he added.
