HONOURING the life and works of author, Kate O’Brien, Limerick Literary Festival will celebrate its 39th anniversary later this month.
Formerly known as the Kate O’Brien Weekend, the Festival promotes Limerick as a place of literary excellence.
It was officially launched last week at O’Mahony’s Bookshop in the city centre.
By attracting prominent participants from home and abroad, the event provides a valuable platform where readers can meet their favourite authors and fellow bookworms.
From February 24 to 26, Limerick Literary Festival will take place in both The People’s Museum, and in the Belltable.
This year’s line up will include authors Casey King, Sean Hewitt, Donal Ryan, Maggie O’Neil – and, several others.
Highlights will include the launch of an exhibition of archive materials from the late Limerick poet, Desmond O’Grady, which will be displayed in the People’s Museum.
A poetry reading will take place at Dooradoyle Library on Friday, February 24.
On the last day of the festival, the Kate O’Brien Award will see three shortlisted writers talk about, and read from their debut books.
The shortlist includes Sheila Armstrong for her short story collection How to Gut a Fish, Olivia Fitzsimons for her novel The Quiet Whispers Never Stop and Emilie Pine for her novel Ruth and Pen.
