THE HEAD of the Limerick garda division was among those who attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of a Limerick garda who died in a road collision 65 years ago.
Garda Thomas O’Driscoll, who was originally from Catherine Place in the city, died when the garda car he was driving was in collision with a cattle lorry at Gannon’s Cross, Redhills, County Cavan on January 22, 1958.
The 26-year-old joined the force in 1954 and had served at Kilkenny, Ballyduff and Thomastown garda stations before being assigned to Cavan garda station.
Relatives of Garda O’Driscoll travelled to Mount Saint Lawrence Cemetery in the city for the wreath-laying ceremony which took place on the anniversary of this death.
Chief Superintendent Derek Smart also attended the ceremony along with other members of An Garda Siochána from Limerick, Cavan and Clare.
The Limerick branch of the Garda Síochána Retired Members Association assisted with the organisation of the ceremony which formed part of the centenary celebrations of An Garda Siochána.
