Lough Gur
THE MUNICIPAL district of Cappamore/Kilmallock will host their monthly meeting in a more scenic location than normal in January.
Councillors will hold their monthly meeting at Lough Gur Visitor Centre on Thursday, January 19.
This is the first time a council meeting will be held at the site of international significance.
Dara O'Brien, Senior staff officer at Limerick City and County Council said that councilors are hoping to get out to different places in the district more now that social distancing restrictions have been lifted.
"During the pandemic, elected members wouldn't have been in a position to hold meetings outside of Kilmallock really due to social distancing measures.
"Now that restrictions have been lifted the councillors are interested in getting out to visit more places in the municipal district.
"In December we held at a meeting at Pallasgreen Community Centre which was great. Now this month we are holding one in Lough Gur as one of the main amenities in the district.
"This is the first time in my time with the council anyway that a meeting has been held there, I think it might be the first time ever".
The local beauty spot was awarded the first first Green Heritage Flag for Limerick in last year.
The flag is in recognition of exceptional work carried out by Limerick City and County Council, the Office of Public Works and the National Monuments Service at the scenic lakeshore park and wider areas over the previous three years.
The park was also officially conferred with a second Green Flag for 2022/2023 as the international mark of quality for parks and green spaces.
