Limerick-based company to create new jobs with multi-million euro investment

LIMERICK engineering firm OMC Technologies has announced a €4m investment which will also see it recruit 40 new personnel.

A new board of management will also be established as part of plans to significantly expand the business during 2023. 

The company, which provides steel manufacturing and surface treatment services, says the investment will see it increase its materials processing capabilities and improve the efficiency of its manufacturing processes and capacity. 

In addition to this, the firm has plans to make a number of additional key investments - including a new 30,000 square foot mild steel fabrication facility and an upgrade of facilities at their head office. 

OMC, which has been in operation in Limerick for over 40 years currently employs around 200 people across various roles, including apprentice and qualified site metal fabricators and fitters, general operatives, mechanical engineers, design engineers, quantity surveyors and project managers.  

The new board of management will see four senior OMC Technologies staff joining as Associate Directors and Padraic Comerford, son of OMC Founder and Chairman, being appointed as Deputy Managing Director for the business.

Commenting on the company's growth plans, Padraic Comerford said: “We are delighted to announce our new management board alongside a €4m investment, creation of new jobs and new management appointments as we enter a significant new chapter in OMC Technologies 40-year history.  Each of these developments show our dedication to securing the future of our company as specialists in the design, creation and installation of bespoke solutions for our customers across a wide range of industries.” 

Founder and Chairman Tom Comerford commented: "OMC was founded in 1981 and seeing see the next generation of Comerford’s come into a leadership role at the company is a real milestone in my life. Padraic has played an integral role since 2004, before being appointed a director in 2018 and now steps in as deputy managing director alongside Managing Director Neil Lynch.  At OMC Technologies, we have a proud history of longevity of staff and the new management, who have been with us a long time, will play a pivotal role in driving the company to the next level. I wish the new management team, and everyone who is part of OMC a fantastic year ahead.” 

While the new management appointments might be recent, the new appointees have all been employed at OMC Technologies for at least 10 and up to 25 years, reflecting the value the company places on longevity as their financial investment cements the firm’s future in the engineering and construction industry.
