Niall Quinn's hack has been viewed hundreds of times online
WITH Christmas over for another year and the decorations taken down, there is an undeniable relief of not having to stress about redecorating again for another 12 months.
One Limerick man has shared his hack online to relieve the inconvenience of decorating the Chritsmas tree every year by wrapping it in clingfilm and storing it away for the next festive season.
Niall Quinn, a Ballananty native, has been recycling his Christmas tree each year since 2015 when he saw the hack being done online: “I saw a meme on Facebook that showed instead of redoing the Christmas tree every year you could wrap it in clingfilm and when unwrapped the next time, it would just pop up,” he told Limerick Live.
“So, I said I would try it for fun - one of the main things that sparked me doing it was that two minutes into decorating the tree in the traditional way with my kids, they would be on their phones and I would end up doing it all myself.”
Niall, who is also a member of Limerick punk band The Hitchers, went on to explain how easy it is to wrap and unwrap the Christmas tree - and how there is no waste in resources or indeed, time, in doing so.
“Everything including the lights stays on it and the method is simple: fold the end of the branches back up a little bit, start at the bottom with a roll of cling film and work your way upwards."
I have made a public information video. Here's how to wrap your fully decorated Christmas tree in a tight clingfilm cocoon for handy storage. It'll be released in 326 days for #Christmas2023 -and in way less than 38 seconds. Thanks to everyone who watched and supported in 2022. pic.twitter.com/qnwh6IrqVh

“It takes up no more room than a ladder would in our shed and I keep the cling film from the previous year, so in total, you’re probably talking about 10 feet of cling film. This year (2022), it only took us 38 seconds to un-cocoon the tree”
Niall's demonstration, which has been posted on social media, has been viewed hundreds of times.
“This year we went live on Facebook on Late Late Toy Show night and I added a donations button to the video - we managed to raise a few quid for Milford Hospice, so we will up our game this year and see if we can raise a bit more for charity.” added Niall.
While he couldn’t disclose any upcoming shows for The Hitchers in 2023, Niall did mention a couple of updates about the band: “While we are in splendid retirement, we did do one gig at home in Limerick in 2022 to mark the 25th anniversary of our first album.”
As for 2023, he says he is still writing and releasing stuff himself and The Hitchers will still probably do a couple of gigs this year.
"There could be a couple of exciting things happening.”
