HSE ‘committed’ to delivery of new Primary Care Centre

They intend to provide the new facility via their operational lease model

New joint development plan is ‘anti-rural Limerick’ says councillor

Cllr Liam Galvin has campaigned for the new Primary Care Centre in Abbeyfeale

THE HSE has confirmed that it is “committed to the delivery of Primary Care Centre accommodation” for Abbeyfeale. This November Regional Health Forum West meeting heard that the HSE intends to deliver the new facility via their operational lease model.

Assistant national director, HSE Capital and Estates, Joe Hoare, stated: “Primary care services in Abbeyfeale are currently delivered from various locations in the town so the development of a new Primary Care Centre in this location would allow for both the co-location and expansion of services.”
Services intended to be delivered from the new Primary Care Centre include public health nursing services, physiotherapy services, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy services, social work services and dental services.

Cllr Liam Galvin posed the question at the Regional Health Forum West meeting and stated that he was “happy enough” with the response. He feels the care centre is required in west Limerick.

“We have three HSE buildings, and they're very much scattered around the town so that's fine if your mobility is OK but for a person with very little mobility, you know, they find it very difficult to access,” said Cllr Galvin.

“What I want is one building fit for purpose for all... with adequate parking and adequate resources.”
The Fine Gael councillor said, “We also need a unit where incidents can be dealt with rather than patients presenting at A&E”.

A procurement process is currently underway for the Primary Care Centre. Expressions of interest have been sought via advertisement on e-tenders. An evaluation of the submissions received is being undertaken. Tenders are anticipated to be returned in Q1 2025 and a successful tender will be identified.
