Castletroy Senior Scratch Cup details revealed

Fergal Costelloe, Manging Director of Trade Electric Group, David O’Driscoll, Men’s Club Captain, Castletroy Golf Club and Kevin Argue, Men’s Club President, launch the Castletroy Senior Scratch Cup

CASTLETROY Golf Club has announced details of the 2024 Senior Scratch Cup, kindly sponsored by Trade Electric Group.

The competition takes place on Saturday, August 31.

First competed for in 1948, the Castletroy Senior Scratch Cup (the Major HK Murray trophy) is one of the oldest and most prestigious scratch cups in the country and attracts many of Ireland's best amateur golfers each year.

The course, currently ranked in the top 100 in Ireland and measuring almost 7,000 yards off the back tees, consistently offers a stiff challenge to any player on the scratch cup or championship circuit.

The 2023 winner was Connaught Interprovincial and former Arnold Palmer Cup golfer, David Kitt. Among the most recent winners are 2023 Irish Close Champion, Rob Moran, and former South of Ireland and British Amateur Champion, James Sugrue.

The quality of former champions is exemplified by a unique roll of honour containing seven GB&I Walker Cup representatives (John Burke, Jimmy Bruen, Max McCready, JB Carr, Tom Craddock, David Sheahan, and James Sugrue) plus future champions in the professional ranks, Liam Higgins, Des Smyth and Denis O’Sullivan.

A strong field is expected again this year with various representative golfers and in-form players from the 2024 Bridgestone Men’s Order of Merit expected to feature.

Entries are invited to Castletroy GC at (061) 335 753 (ext. 2) or golf@castletroygolfclub.ie.

Handicap limit is WHS of 2.4 and confined to the lowest 72 entrants. Shotgun start at 9am and 2.30pm on the day. The entry fee of €50 includes lunch. Closing date for entries is 5pm sharp on Thursday, August 28.
