JUNIOR HURLING: The junior hurlers had a facile 6-16 to 1-2 win over Austin Stacks in Sean Finns Rathkeale last Sunday, in the Munster quarter final. In cold blustery conditions and playing into a strong wind Bruff flew out of the blocks posting 2-1 in the opening 10 minutes, our goals coming from Albert Shanahan and Eric Finn. Austin Stacks soon got a goal of their own back and it looked as if the Kerry champions would make this encounter a tough battle. Bruff however moved through the gears and using the ball well added some good points from play, the highlight a Pat Dempsey score from way out on the right wing. A third goal before half time again from the industrious Eric Finn saw us lead at halftime, 3-06 to 1-02. Aided by the breeze in the second half, it was one way traffic as Bruff constantly kept the scoreboard ticking over. During the half Tom Raleigh emptied the bench, but this in no way upset the teams momentum, as they continued to add on scores. Indeed Declan Hayes, who entered the fray mid way through the half dispatched two excellent goals to seal the victory, with Timmy O Sullivan also raising a green flag. Bruff now go forward to meet Clare champions Tubber, possibly this Saturday with the venue and throw-in time to be confirmed. Please check with any committee member, the club facebook page or website for confirmation and please support the team. In spite of the win Tom Raleigh will know that much improvement is required if his charges are to overcome the Clare representatives. Panel last Sunday: J Browne; M O Shea, D Reale, M Hehir; A O Shea, M Weekes, A Moloney; I Hogan, T O Sullivan; P Dempsey, R Hourigan, JA Moran; E Finn, A Shanahan, C Bulfin; R Mulqueen, F O Dwyer, G Dempsey, D Hayes, J Mulqueen & T Clancy.

AGM: A fine attendance at the Goat Inn in Goatstown heard an inspiring address from Professor Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh at the 18th AGM of the Limerick Supporters club in Dublin. A native of Limerick city, Professor Ó Tuathaigh is a passionate follower of Limerick teams and one of Ireland’s most eminent historians. In a wide-ranging address, the former Professor of Modern History at NUI, Galway and current member of the Council of State urged the GAA in general and in particular in Limerick to establish a Planning Unit to examine and tackle the challenges facing the Association as the demographic face of rural and urban life changes. Paul also said that the Supporters Club had generated in the region of €13,000 of financial assistance for the Limerick GAA - a not insignificant sum in the current economic climate. SENIOR CLUB: Our own Pa Begley, Munster U-21 Championship winner with Limerick in 2011, last appeared in the Limerick colours in the All-Ireland semi-final of that competition against Galway.
