WILL it be the turn of the Adare senior footballers to finally get their hands on the trophy after coming up short in the last three county finals or will Fr Caseys return to their 2006 glory days?

It’s all up for grabs this Sunday in the Irish Wire Products Ltd Limerick Senior football final at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale with a throw-in time of 4pm.

These two West Limerick sides are quite familiar with each other after battling it out in a number of semi-finals over the past few years.

Adare are facing their fourth county final in-a-row while the Abbeyfeale men will be experiencing the final for the first time since 2009.

Adare have built nicely throughout the championship with a number of players returning to the squad during the knockout stages. During the group games Harry Gleeson’s men recorded only one loss to Mungret St Paul’s, which meant having to play both a quarter-final and a semi-final to reach this point of the season.

In horrific weather conditions, Adare got the better of Galtee Gaels in their quarter-final, 0-10 to 0-1 which secured thir place against old rivals Newcastle West in the semi-finals two weeks ago.

Adare showed admirable determination and skill to dethrone Newcastle West from their mantle and progress to this year’s final, thanks to a 2-9 to 0-11 victory.

With Newcastle West out of the running after bidding for their fourth title on the trot another Limerick side had the opportunity to reach this year’s final with Fr Caseys making no mistake following their narrow one point victory over Mungret St Paul's in their semi-final which was also played during testing weather conditions.

Fr Caseys also had to go the long way around this year’s championship getting past a spirited Na Piarsaigh side, 3-12 to 1-6, in their quarter-final. Eoin Joy’s charges only lost out to Newcastle West in the group stages of the competition with wins in every other game.

Adare and Fr Caseys last met in the 2023 semi-final where the Adare came out victors. With similar age profiles in both squads this Sunday’s final in Mick Neville Park is set to be an evenly matched contest.
