HISTORY BOOK: There was a fantastic evening on Sunday last in the Halla Mor at the launch of 'The History Of Gaelic Games in the Parish of Knockaderry and Clouncagh'. Despite the below zero weather conditions a fine crowd gathered to launch the book which was officially co-launched by Tom Condon, John Cregan whom were present on the night and Micheal O Muircheartaigh via audio message. Sean Liston, the editor of the book gave a very detailed account of his journey through the last five years of the project but in essence it was a lifelong journey as his archive has been expanding for many, many years before the project officially commenced. John Sheehy, the Chairperson of the History committee paid a great tribute to Sean for his efforts and enthusiasm for the project and for leading the way with his research, John stated the parish owed a great debt to Sean for the piece of work that he had completed. John also thanked the History committee and paid tribute to the generosity of the parish who supported the book through the patron scheme. The book, which is almost 600 pages in volume, spans the history of Gaelic Games in the parish for the past 140 years odd, encompassing the camogie and GAA club along with the contribution of many teams representing Ahalin NS down through the years. It also includes significant community events that have taken place over the past 140 years also. Tim Murphy, vice Chairperson of Munster GAA congratulated and paid a warm tribute to the History committee for their efforts and to the club for having the vision to pursue such a project. In his launch address John Cregan, who was performing his final official act as Chairperson of Limerick GAA, spoke of the legacy that the book will leave and how it will forever hold in record the contribution of so many great players, coaches, administrators and volunteers who gave some much of their lives to the GAA in Knockaderry. Other speakers on the night included Orla Ambrose, Chairperson of Knockaderry camogie club, Vincent Hanley, Chairperson of Ahalin NS Board of Management, Ger Downes, Chairperson of Knockaderry GAA and MC, Niall Collins TD and Richard O Donoghue TD. Thanks to everyone who attended the launch, books are now on sale from Sean Condon 0879332878 or Tom Sheehy 0871353157 for €30 while stocks last.

MUNGRET ST PAULS

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE: When we received planning permission to build our astro turf ball alley and the new pitches it came with specific conditions. Meeting these conditions slowed down our progress, the best documented was the requirement of having an archaeologist on site. As has been confirmed he found fifteen skeletons delaying progress by at least 6 months. We also have to be very conscious of the gas pipeline across the proposed pitch. We are indebted to Sean Aherne and James O’Connor for the incredible amount of time given to the project as well as their patience and attention to detail. At last we can report progress in November 2022. We have today, Tuesday 6 November, paid the deposit on the 50 metre hurling wall. Excavation work has been completed. We need 6000 cubic meters of soil to raise the new pitch and same has been gotten from Sorsens, the road builders and the building firm who are building the new school. Soil is stacked on the field adjacent to the proposed new pitch. We have confirmed the company who will build the astro turf pitch and ball alley, it is hoped the ball alley will be in use in April 2023 and the astro turf in July 2023. The contract to construct the new pitch has been accepted and subject to weather it is hoped to commence in April 2023. Planning permission is being applied for, for the extension to the Community Centre to include a Gym, meeting rooms and a shop. Finally I would like to acknowledge the generosity of many of our club members and commercial companies who are making all of the above possible. Of course we continue to welcome anyone who wishes to contribute to the project.
EVERY STEP COUNTS : Mungret St. Pauls are pleased to announce that they are taking part in the Every Step counts in January. We will have more details coming up in the new year so get your runners ready, your fitbit charged and the Irish Life app downloaded.
CASH FOR CLOBBER: Thank you to everyone who dopped off their bags for the Cash for Clobber. We were delighted with the response.
CONDOLENCES:Condolences to the O'Doherty family on the passing of Mary Falvey, mother to Maureen, mother in law to James, grandmother to players Eoin and Cian and their partners, extended family and friends. Ardheis Dé go raibh a hanam dilis.
LADIES FOOTBALL: Heartiest Congratulations to Caitríona Rice on receiving the Seamus McCluskey Club Person of the Year 2022. Caitríona received this award for her outstanding work, commitment and dedication to the Club in 2022. Well done to all the recipients who received medals for their success on the playing field in the last 12 months. Sincere thanks to Killian Ryan who presented the medals. And a special word of thanks to Santa Clause who took time out of his very busy schedule to greet all the underage members that packed out the Clubhouse on Saturday last. Underage Disco this Friday in Community Centre.
AGM: The club Agm took place on Sunday 11 December in the community centre, it was well attended. There was no change in officers as all this years officers were reelected with exception of our Childrens officer, Trish Barry who will be stepping back and Yvonne Markham will assume the role with Trish helping in the background. We would like to thank and acknowledge Trish for her years of commitment to the role we look forward to welcoming Yvonne on board. With this change comes the reminder to make sure your garda vetting is up to date- why not get it done now while we have a break. It was great to get a treasurers report which showed that the club is coping well, the push on the development funding is healthy but if we are to hope to get the ball wall and astro turf and a start on the main pitch behind the current ball wall we need commitment from more members and business to push us on to the funding we require. Donal Fitzgibbon in his address expressed his Thanks to all our volunteers who have helped in any way through the year. Without our volunteers the club would not exist. Our coaches are seen to be encouraging our players to do their best in GAA, but we also have unseen volunteers like those that raise funds and look after our facilities, all of which are very important to the running of the club. Mungret St. Pauls would like to express their condolences to all who have lost a loved one during the year and also congratulate those who have welcomed a new player into their families. Thank you to everyone who has supported us through 2022, we look forward to seeing you again in the new year.

NA PIARSAIGH

MUNSTER FOOTBALL FINAL: A big day out for our footballers on Sunday as they faced into the clubs first ever Munster Football Final. Traveling to Mallow to take on the Kerry champions Rathmore in very cold and trying conditions. We began well with a point from skipper Dylan Cronin before Rathmore rattled off 4 pointed frees of their own. Kieran Daly added a point on 12 minutes following good work in attack. High drama ensued and we very nearly raised a green flag from Cathal McMullen when his goal-bound effort was deflected out for a 45. Eoghan Sherlock was immediately busy at the other end to deny Rathmore a goal chance. Further frees conceded added to our woe and by the half-time whistle, we trailed by 6 points 0-10 to 0-4.
We began the second half strongly and a Kieran Daly 45 increased our tally. Shortly after came a crucial period when Kieran Daly gain possession from the kick out to race through on goal only to see his rasper of a shot bounce back off the crossbar and back out to the 13-meter line. A huge turning points no doubt and a swing in their favor as they scored from the resulting attack. We added two further points to reduce the deficit and possibly could have had a few more but the decisive score came on 43 minutes when Rathmore engineered a goal and added a point to reopen a lead we could not surmount. A major swing in the tie and try as we might the lead was too big. Further points from Kieran Daly, Dylan Cronin, and substitute Tom McKeown completed our tally and a gallant effort from the lads. What has been an excellent campaign, where Senior status has been resecured and a first victory in the Munster Club also added to the list. Congratulations to all concerned with this team with a special mention to Micheal Lynch for his unbelievable dedication again this year. To coach James Fleming who did an excellent job, Ciaran McHugh, Brian Hartnett the team selectors, Daragh Kennedy and Brian Hurley on physio and Leonard Durac and Dave O Connell on stats and analysis. Thank you to the brave souls who made the trip to support the team as it was gratefully appreciated. A big thank you to Michael Roberts for his generous sponsorship again this year. We really appreciate your support. Final score Rathmore 1-17 Na Piarsaigh 0-10

ST KIERANS

MUNSTER FINAL: Saint Kieran's lost to Ballygiblin Cork by 3-12 to 0-11 in the Munster Junior Hurling Club Championship final played at Mallow Sports Complex on Sunday December 4. It was a dry cold day with a biting wind and the club had great support. St Kieran's played with the wind and Darragh Treacy opened the scoring from play and a further point from Ian Mackessy saw them 2 points to 1 ahead. An injury to James Muckell disrupted the team and his loss was really felt as he had the ability to win ball and convert it into scores. Ballygiblin scored two quick goals and for all their possession St Kieran's trailed by 5 points. Ian Mackessy from frees kept his team in touch but an opportunist goal in injury time saw Ballygiblin lead by 3-2 to 0-7 at half time.
The winners dominated the second half with the wind at their backs and free taker Joseph O'Sullivan converted all the frees to see them comfortably ahead at the final whistle.
Team: Cillian Ambrose, Diarmuid Mulcahy, Paudie Mc Carthy, Aaron Heffernan, Jack Ben Harnett, Brendan Mc Carthy, Cathal Mc Enery, Sean Ryan, Mossie Shine, Darragh Treacy 0-1, Johnny Mc Carthy, Cormac Mann, Ian Mackessy 0-10 (Captain), Eoin Mc Enery, James Muckell. Subs Donie Nolan, Anthony Molyneaux, Mike Flynn. The team had a great year winning the county unbeaten and gave their all in Munster against a very good Cork team.
