LIMERICK’S ladies footballers team got a historic All-Ireland semi-final win over Fermanagh to book their place in the final and no one was more proud than manager, Graham Shine who stated he was “just over the moon” after the final whistle.

Shine's charges earned a one-point victory to seal their faith in a game that Limerick had no score until the 26th minute. He stated after the match that “I said it to the girls when we were leaving that semi-finals are for winning and I don’t care if we win good or bad, a point will do us and by Christ we got over that line with that point.

"I am so proud of these girls and that second-half was just absolutely ferocious. No one realises how hard they work behind closed doors and I am delighted for them.”

Limerick’s super sub, Caoimhe McGrath, came on at half-time and scored six points to keep her side in the game. “We got Caoimhe on and she kicked three or four in a row that got us over the line. Fair play to her, that is her first All Ireland semi-final and she stood up today, I am so proud of her."

Limerick’s ladies now face Down in the All-Ireland final on Sunday, August 13 in Croke Park. Shine and his squad will know from previous encounters that they will have to step up the intensity at training in the coming weeks.

“When we played Down I suppose we didn’t really perform in the second half, but they are things we will work on in the next few weeks. It was all about getting to the final, we are there now and we can work hard for the next three weeks.”
