Almost 100 Limerick applicants for The Hare’s Corner Initiative

LIMERICK City and County Council has confirmed there have been almost 100 applicants for The Hare’s Corner initiative.
This innovative biodiversity project, in collaboration with Burrenbeo Trust, has garnered significant interest from landowners across Limerick, with close to 90 applications received ahead of the extended deadline of this March 30.
The Hare’s Corner aims to support landowners in creating more space for nature on their land through practical actions such as the creation of wildlife ponds, native mini-woodlands, wildlife hedges, and heritage mini-orchards. The initiative provides essential materials, micro-funding, professional services, and guidance to help landowners take impactful steps towards enhancing biodiversity.

Sinead McDonnell, biodiversity officer at Limerick City and County Council announced the extension saying, “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to The Hare’s Corner initiative. The extension of the deadline will allow even more landowners to participate and contribute to the creation of vital habitats for nature.”
Many landowners are eager to support nature but often struggle with knowing where or how to begin. The Hare’s Corner initiative bridges this gap between awareness and action by offering practical guidance, essential materials, and, when needed, micro-funding - helping turn intentions into impactful biodiversity actions on the ground.
