Representatives from Gaelscoil an Ráithín will travel to Missouri in April
A LIMERICK gaelscoil is making history as they are through to the world robotics championships in America.
A group of 40 sixth-class students from Gaelscoil an Ráithín have qualified for the VEX robotics world championships in St Louis, Missouri.
There are just three other schools from Ireland travelling over to the championships in April and this is the first time that a Limerick primary school have gotten into the global final.
The team, with the help of teachers Niamh Donnellan and Christín Ní Choinceannain and SNA Martin Pierce, are now fundraising for the trip.
They have set up a GoFundMe (https://www.gofundme.com/f/gaelscoil-an-raithin-limerick) which has so far raised almost 30% of the €50,000 target.

Ms Donnellan said that STEM subjects are so important and that they have an equal number of boys and girls on the team and many of them are sure to be future engineers.
“This group are go getters, they are eating, sleeping and breathing this - they come over to us in the mornings with notebooks to see what we'll be working on that day,” Ms Donnellan said, delighted by their enthusiasm.
