SEVEN Limerick students are among those taking part in an online safety campaign.

More than 140 students from across Ireland are involved in the Webwise Safer Internet Day (SID) Ambassador Training Programme.

The peer-led programme equips students with the knowledge and skills to lead their own online safety awareness raising campaign in their schools and local communities.

Those involved spent a day in Dublin for in-person training where they received support from the Webwise Youth Advisory Panel.

The Webwise Safer Internet Day Ambassador Training Programme gives students the opportunity to take a leading role in promoting a safer, better internet and tackle issues that are important to them including online bullying, wellbeing and privacy online.

Webwise promotes the autonomous, effective, and safer use of the internet by young people through a sustained information and awareness strategy targeting parents, teachers, and children themselves with consistent and relevant messages.

They develop and deliver resources that help teachers integrate internet safety into teaching and learning in their schools.

Safer Internet Day (SID), which took place on Tuesday, is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people.

The Limerick students involved are from Youthreach O’Connell Avenue, Ardscoil Mhuire, Corbally, Castletroy College, Scoil Pól, Kilfinane, and Coláiste Iósaef Community College, Kilmallock.
