Green Limerick: Climate week promises mix of engaging events

“A DIVERSE mix” of events is promised for a week-long celebration of sustainability, creativity, and community collaboration in Limerick.

Limerick City and County Council is set to launch Climate Action Week Limerick 2025, an annual event that invites individuals, families, and organisations to come together in shaping a greener future.

Running from Monday, April 28 to Sunday, May 4, the theme this year is #GreenForLimerick.

Interactive workshops, engaging performances, practical demonstrations, and community-powered projects are planned for the week-long celebration, all of which are aimed at sparking environmental awareness and real action across the city and county.

The week kicked off with a public talk by education expert Anne Dolan at Mary Immaculate College, addressing climate change within Ireland's education sector.

That same evening, the UL City Campus hosted the launch of a thought-provoking Popup Gallery showcasing climate-themed artworks by young local artists.

Midweek, activities ramp up with everything from budget-friendly batch cooking and community gardening workshops to networking sessions on food waste reduction.

The Climate Action Project Network will present a biodigester demonstration and host a Climate Café, offering, a chance to connect with others working in the climate action space.

On Thursday, the Energy Café at Limerick City Library invites the public to enjoy a warm drink while learning how to cut energy costs with expert advice and interactive displays.

Dr. Darren Barry, community climate action officer at Limerick summed up the spirit of the week, saying: “Climate Action Week Limerick reminds us that real change isn’t just possible, it’s already happening throughout Limerick, and we are all part of it continuing.

“Whether you are a seasoned eco-activist or just beginning your journey, this is your chance to be part of a local movement for a greener, fairer future. ”

All events are free and open to all ages.
