Green Limerick: Twelve ways to enjoy Limerick Greenway this Christmas

THIS FESTIVE season, Limerick Greenway invites everyone to experience the 12 Wonders of Limerick Greenway, with a list of tips on how to enjoy the outdoor space.

The public are encouraged to spend quality time along the scenic 40km off-road experience and in the five towns and villages dotted along the greenway this Christmas, with a number of different ways to experience the facility.

There are newly installed  culture and heritage audio facilities with Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpretation available along the way, as well as other visitor services, information spots and local tips in Rathkeale, Ardagh, Newcastle West, Barnagh and Abbeyfeale hubs.

Events at Barnagh Greenway Hub include a Twilight Market and Breakfast with Santa, with more to be announced.

There are fully accessible  car parks located in Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West, Ardagh and Rathkeale with timetables updated monthly, as well as different entry points to choose from.

For those who wish to embrace nature, there are frequent wildlife sightings to look out for, including Barn Owls, Willow Warblers, Song Thrushs and so much more, as recorded by the National Biodiversity Data Centre. 

There are also an abundance of flora variations, including Cowslips, Primroses, Ladies Smock, Vetch and Dog Violet.

Visitors can capture their memories along or near Limerick Greenway at key discovery points such as Barnagh Tunnel, Ferguson’s Viaduct, Port Castle and historical landmarks  including the Irish Palatine Museum, Tullig Wood and Devon Road Station House.

There are also an array of local attractions around the greenway to explore, such as Wild Encounters Mini Zoo, The Painted Pot Pottery Studio, Greenway Glamping in Templeglantine, Barnagh Playground and Basecamp Adventure Park in Cloonty, to name but a few.

So whether you are cycling, walking, running, rollerblading, bird watching, playground hopping or horse riding, the 40km Limerick Greenway offers endless opportunities to connect with the great outdoors this Christmas.
