The 2024 Green Flag Awards were announced on Friday, November 8, by An Taisce Environmental Education. The International Green Flag Award was awarded to 120 parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries around the country.
The award acknowledges excellence in the management of those green spaces which are freely open to the public.
The Green Flag Award is an international accreditation program that recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces. Managed by the UK environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, the award is delivered in partnership with national operators around the world.
In Ireland, An Taisce Environmental Education has been the national operator since 2016.
The Green Flag award scheme encourages high environmental performance and good management. The Green Heritage Site Accreditation is awarded to public green spaces of historical importance, actively managed to promote their unique heritage.
The Green Flag Community Award extends the scheme to volunteer-run community green space projects.
