Limerick man's hearing adjourned to allow him attend toddler's funeral

Peter Mulcaire tragically died after being struck by a vehicle near his home in Rathkeale last Saturday
A LIMERICK man’s court hearing has been adjourned to allow him attend the funeral of two-year-old Peter Mulcaire.
Michael Harty, aged 47, of Lisheen Park, Patrickswell, was due to appear before Judge Patricia Harney this Wednesday in connection with a Section 4 theft offence.
His solicitor, Tom Kiely, told Limerick District Court that his client was not present and made an application for an immediate adjournment.
Judge Harney was informed that Mr Harty made no appearance at the scheduled hearing because he was at the funeral of the toddler, who tragically died after being struck by a vehicle near his home in Rathkeale last Saturday.
Upon learning this information, Judge Patricia Harney adjourned the matter and put it back to November 4, where Mr Harty will be expected to enter either a guilty plea or a date is to be set for trial at Circuit Court level.
At his funeral this Wednesday, two-year-old Peter was described as having “a smile that would brighten up any room.”
The little boy had just started pre-school the week before his death and his little sister, Delilah, was also baptised at the funeral, as the family wanted him to be present for the occasion.
