Gardaí are investigating the reported theft of two pet dogs from a home in the Fedamore area of County Limerick.

The dogs have since been found and returned to their owner but garda enquiries are still ongoing.

The two pets were reported as stolen from the owners front yard on Wednesday, September 2 at around noon.

Video from a doorbell camera obtained by Limerick Live captured a woman carrying a small white dog under one arm while violently grasping at and struggling with another dog of a similar breed.

Footage shows the individual crouching down outside the home’s open gate, tightly holding one dog and using it as bait to lure the second. The second dog approaches the woman with its tail-wagging. She then violently grasps at the dog, who attempts to bite the woman in an attempt to free itself. The dog is ultimately bundled under her arm and both animals are carried off to a small white vehicle.

Animal Welfare activists called on the Minister of Justice in July of this year to create a distinct criminal charge for the theft of pets , purporting that current laws do little to deter thieves from stealing dogs to sell or for use on puppy farms.
