‘Frightening experience’ for victims of thefts in Limerick city

Two elderly women have been targeted by thieves in the city

TWO women in their eighties were targeted in two separate thefts in the city centre and Corbally.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer for Henry Street garda station said one woman had a “frightening experience”. One incident occurred at the Milk Market after 12.30pm on September 13.

“She had just returned to her car and was putting away her shopping trolley when a man opened her vehicle, took her purse and ran off towards High Street. This suspect was described as approximately six foot tall, wearing beige shorts, a turquoise T-shirt, and a cap.”

Sgt O'Halloran is urging anyone who was at the Milk Market on September 13 who may have seen this man or noticed suspicious activity, to come forward. You can contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Gardai are also investigating another theft in Corbally on September 10. Sgt O'Halloran explained: “At around 12.45pm on Wednesday, September 10, a lady in her 80s was stopped in her vehicle at a pedestrian crossing in College Park, Corbally.”

“While she was stopped at the crossing a male opened the passenger side door and snatched her handbag.”

Sgt O'Halloran added: “He later dropped the handbag but unfortunately took her wallet, which contained a number of personal belongings. The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, tall, wearing a blue tracksuit.”
