Gardai arrest suspect over threatening Limerick pub staff with knife

GARDAI have made an arrest following an investigation into a knife-wielding man threatening staff of a pub in County Limerick.

The incident took place at a licensed premises in Kilmallock last weekend. It occurred on Sunday morning, August 24 at approximately 1am.

“A male threatened staff with a weapon and left the scene. Gardaí conducted a search of the area but the male was not located,” said a garda spokesperson, who appealed for witnesses to come forward

It is understood that the Regional Armed Support Unit responded to assist local gardai. No injuries have been reported. 

In a follow up query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson confirmed gardaí investigating the possession of an offensive weapon at a premises in Kilmallock have arrested a man in connection with this enquiry.

“The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on Friday, August 29 and detained at a garda station in Limerick under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

“He has since been charged and is due to appear before Kilmallock District Court at a later date,” said the garda spokesperson.

The next sitting of Kilmallock District Court is on Tuesday, September 9.
