Gardai in Limerick have launched a major investigation

BREAKING:  Fatal assault in Limerick city

The scene has been cordoned off by gardai for forensic technical examination

GARDAI in Limerick have launched a major investigation following the fatal assault of a pensioner in the city, Limerick Live has learned.

It is believed to have occurred in the Watergate flats area either late last night or in the early hours of this Friday morning.

The deceased, aged in his early 70s, was rushed to University Hospital Limerick but it is understood he died from injuries sustained in the assault.

Gardai have been contacted for comment.
