THREE sheds in the same Limerick area were broken into on one night, with tools being the target of the break-ins.
Between Wednesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 27, three garden sheds were broken into in Effin, Kilmallock.
“In each case, the shed doors were either unlocked or forced open, with tools being the target of the break-ins,” said Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, crime prevention officer, Henry St garda station.
“When investing in security to protect your property, I recommend budgeting about 10% to 20% of your property’s value for protection.”

Sgt O’Halloran recommends shed owners to “layer up” on shed security, with CCTV, alarms, sensor lighting, good quality locks and bolts, which she says are “all very effective”.
“Additionally, consider marking your tools with identifiable details to make them harder to sell if stolen. And remember, always lock tools away within your shed.”
Sgt O'Halloran said “it is all about money” with perpetrators, “so these stolen tools will be sold on for cash, in this supply and demand market”.
“Always buy from legitimate sources and if you are offered something under suspicious circumstances, it could be stolen.”
“Refuse to buy it and report the incident to your local Garda station. As long as there is demand for stolen goods, theft will continue,” she concluded.
