Man, 50s, viciously beaten by burglars at his Limerick home

A LIMERICK man was viciously attacked outside his home after he disturbed burglars trying to break into a shed.

The homeowner, aged in his 50s, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment after he was punched a number of times.

A garda spokesperson confirmed they are investigating an incident of assault which occurred in Doon, County Limerick on Saturday night, March 29 at approximately 11.30pm.

“A man, aged in his 50s, was assaulted outside his home and removed to University Hospital Limerick. Investigations are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.

It is understood the victim was inside his home when he heard a noise coming from outside. He went out to check the vicinity when he was set upon by a number of masked individuals. The alarm was raised and an ambulance called to take him to hospital to get treatment for his injuries. 

It is thought he was punched a number of times by his assailants. It is believed that the burglars were in the process of breaking into a shed containing tools and equipment when they were disturbed.

One local told Limerick Live: “It is absolutely disgraceful carry-on. The poor man was relaxing at home on Saturday night. Next thing he knows he is getting a beating and is in an ambulance off to the Regional. He’s a lovely man.

"Everybody is disgusted by it. I hope the guards get them."

Anybody who have may have seen any unusual activity in the village of Doon, or cars being driven in a suspicious manner, are asked to contact Bruff garda station on 061 382940.
