Gardai, Limerick and Fire Rescue Service and paramedics with the National Ambulance Service all responded to the serious road traffic incident.

A garda spokesperson confirmed gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision at Junction 28 of the M7 at Castleconnell, County Limerick on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

“The collision involved two cars and occurred at approximately 9.10pm.

It is not known, at this time, if this was an innocent error to drive the wrong way down the motorway, or if they did so to escape from gardai in pursuit.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

The motorway was closed for a lengthy period of time to allow for the men to be removed to hospital and the badly damaged vehicles to be removed.
