BREAKING: Two arrested after cannabis and cash seized in Limerick village

GARDAI arrested two males - one his 20s and a juvenile - and seized cannabis valued at €10,000 and €7k in cash in Castleconnell this Wednesday morning.

Gardai swooped on a number properties around 8pm as part of ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the region.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí attached to the Divisional Drugs Unit, supported by the Armed Support Unit, Dog Unit and members of Operation Croí carried out a number of searches in Castleconnell on Wednesday, February 19.

"Searches were carried out at seven domestic residences. As a result, cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €10,000 was seized. Gardaí also seized approximately €6,925 in cash."

The drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

"Two males, one in his twenties and a juvenile have been arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in County Limerick. They are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, respectively.

"The investigation is ongoing," said the garda spokesperson.

The seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021.

"The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle, and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels—international, national, and local—involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of controlled drugs," said a garda spokesperson.
