Car component stolen during break-in prompts gardaí to share advice on vehicle security

Unusual crime saw burglar wedge open car door in Limerick

GARDAÍ in Limerick are investigating a car break-in, where the burglar stole the ignition barrel.

On the night of Wednesday, January 29 to Thursday, January 30, a man had his car targetted by a burglar in Toormore Estate in Bruree.

“A male in his 20s had his car door wedged open and the ignition barrel pulled out,” said Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer of Henry Street Garda Station.

“Should you have a vehicle without an immobiliser, I recommend you consider having one retrofitted.

“Immobilisers work by restricting an essential component part of the engine unless the correct key is used to try and start the vehicle.”

Gardaí in Bruff are appealing to anyone with any information or anyone who may have been passing through and may have observed any individuals or vehicles acting suspiciously overnight to contact them on 061 382940.
