UPDATE: Limerick man charged over death of Marguerita Sheridan in Rathkeale further remanded in custody

A MAN charged in connection with the death of young mother Marguerita Sheridan has been further remanded in custody this Friday morning

Ms Sheridan, who died following a fatal collision in Rathkeale last Saturday, is due to be laid to rest on Sunday.

The accused man, Danny O’Donoghue, aged 42, of Lower Main Street, Rathkeale, appeared before a vacation sitting of Limerick District Court this Friday morning via video-link.

He was charged with five separate offences at a special sitting of Limerick District Court on Christmas Eve.

Mr O’Donoghue is charged with one count of dangerous driving causing the death of Ms Sheridan, aged 21, at Bank Place, Well Lane, Rathkeale, on December 21.

The accused was also charged with one count of causing criminal damage to a set of steel gates at the same location on the same date.

Mr O’Donoghue was also charged with one count of making a threat to kill or cause serious harm to a Patrick Sheridan at Ballywilliam, Rathkeale on December 21. 

He faces one count of producing a machete during the course of making the alleged threat to Mr Sheridan.

Mr O’Donoghue confirmed he could see and hear the court when he appeared via video-link from Limerick Prison this Friday morning. He stated his name when requested by the court registrar.

Sergeant Sean Murray, prosecuting on behalf of the State, said DPP’s directions are awaited and a file is being prepared.

Sgt Murray applied for a four week adjournment.

Solicitor John Herbert, who acted for Mr O’Donoghue during the short procedural matter, said this was on consent.

Judge Adrian Harris remanded Mr O’Donoghue in continuing custody until January 21 for DPP’s directions.

Marguerita Sheridan, who gave birth to a baby boy three weeks ago, was critically injured when a vehicle allegedly struck a set of gates she was standing in proximity to in Rathkeale last Saturday afternoon. She was later pronounced dead at University Hospital Limerick.
