Date revealed for popular Limerick swimming pool's re-opening to schools

Askeaton Swimming Pool's scheduled re-opening last month was postponed

Date revealed for popular Limerick swimming pool's re-opening to schools

ASKEATON swimming pool is to re-open for use by local schools this Wednesday morning.

Limerick City and County Council has made the announcement that the facility will typically operate between 10am and 2pm.

The re-opening follows a major programme of works and investment at the town's leisure complex.

These works have been partly funded by the Department of Sport’s Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund and Limerick City and County Council.

In recent weeks, the final stage of preparatory work, including comprehensive water testing, was successfully completed, allowing for this phased reopening to begin.

As part of this initial reopening, local schools will resume swimming lessons and activities at the pool.

This reopening applies to the pool area only and does not yet include the remainder of the leisure complex.

Further phases of reopening, including access for members of the public, will be announced in due course.

Swim Ireland are the appointed operators of the Askeaton Swimming Pool and Leisure facility.

The pool was meant to re-open last month, but this was delayed to allow for the verification of water testing results, which are required to ensure public safety.

An official reopening event is also being planned to take place in the near future to mark the full return of services at Askeaton Pool and Leisure.

Leader of the Adare-Rathkeale municipal district, Cllr Ger Ward has welcomed the news.

Limerick City and County Council sait it would like to extend its sincere thanks to the community, staff, and all users for their patience and understanding throughout this process.
