A NEW art piece has been unveiled at Castleconnell Train Station as part of the Síolta Glasa AR Trail initiative: The Heritage Line, Linking History, Rail and Climate Solutions.
The mural is a creative and climate action collaboration between Iarnród Éireann, Castleconnell Tidy Towns, students in Castleconnell NS, and artist Ana Colomer.
The piece merges art, education and Augmented Reality (AR) elements, which were created by Professor Mark Marshall, from the University of Limerick.
The station is the starting point for an AR trail of six stops highlighting historical or natural landmarks within the beautiful heritage village of Castleconnell.

Joanne Bissett, Iarnród Éireann arts and social officer said: “We are delighted to unveil the latest art piece on our network.”
She added: “We have utilised our station space in a new way to highlight the power of art as a visual for heritage and community. It also demonstrates how different groups can work together for positive climate action.”
A spokesperson for Castleconnell Tidy Towns said: “We are overjoyed with the outcome of the project that highlights Castleconnell Train Station and public transport as an option for residents to reduce their carbon footprint.”
The mural was unveiled as part of Limerick Culture Night, and was followed later in the evening by the launch of Castleconnell's new Augmented Reality Trail.
The launch, which took place at the new stretch tent at the Castle Oaks Hotel, was accompanied by an array of salmon lanterns and two huge swans, which are synonymous with Castleconnell.
A spokesperson for Castleconnell Tidy Towns said that atmosphere on the evening was "greatly enhanced" by a performance by The Rolling Tones Rock Choir.
