Country and gospel singer James Kilbane will help the Caherdavin community mark two auspicious anniversaries
A WEEK of fun activities are in store later this month as a northside city community marks two auspicious occasions.
Parish Community Week will arrive in Caherdavin on Saturday, September 27.
It’s being held to mark 40 years of Christ the King Church and 41 years of the neighbouring community centre.

A huge number of events will take place across seven days, including a parish community picnic, a documentary on the history of Caherdavin’s Church and an evening of country and gospel music.
John Giltenan, communications officer and community committee member of the Caherdavin parish, says a fun week is in the pipeline.
“The community of Caherdavin are looking forward with great pride and ready to celebrate a very historic milestone in the history of the parish,” he said.
It was on Monday, September 27, 1985, that Christ the King Church in the centre of the northside community was opened.
Exactly 40 years to the day, a special community Mass will take place in the church on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 6.30pm.
Earlier that same day, Na Piarsaigh GAA club will play host to a parish community picnic.
Also on the first day of the community week, the community centre will play host to an activities exhibition.
Christ the King Church will be the venue for a documentary charting the history of Caherdavin, on Tuesday night, September 30, from 6.30pm.
Leading gospel singer James Kilbane will be in the church on Thursday night, October 2, for an evening of country and gospel music.
And on Friday, October 3, Na Piarsaigh plays host to a parish community social night which will round off all the celebrations.
All are welcome to these events, and more.
Mr Giltenan added the week represents “a truly fitting tribute in the history of this remarkable community and Caherdavin celebrates with true pleasure and great delight.”
