A POP-UP shop organised by Limerick siblings in honour of their late mother and her mental health advocacy has raised almost €4,000 for Limerick Mental Health Association (LMHA) and a new out of hours mental health service.
Corbally native Sinéad O'Keeffe said the event was “deeply personal” to her as her mother Noirín De Barra always spoke openly about her own struggles with mental health and advocated to reduce the stigma surrounding it. The event at Wickham Way market in Limerick city raised €3,800 for LMHA and other mental health supports in Limerick and was organised by Sinéad and her brothers Dara and Liam Barry-Hayes.
"We had a lovely day to remember our mam, showcase her fashion, raise money for a worthy cause and get people talking about mental health awareness," stated Sinéad. "The event was inspired by her fashion book Dress to Impress with Labels for Less and short story Red Patent Shoes which everyone got a chance to read on the wall (at the pop-up shop.)"
Sinéad said that attendees also has the opportunity to write a positive affirmation after buying some clothes and LMHA were there to provide information about the mental health services in Limerick. "It took a village to put together and my brothers and I are so grateful for the all the support."

Noirín passed away in March this year and Sinéad returned from New Zealand at a day's notice and luckily made it home in time to say goodbye. “Noirín always felt very strongly about improving mental health services in Limerick and expressed ideas for a community space... in a non-clinical more inclusive setting.”
Speaking about the idea for the charity event, Sinéad said: “The idea occurred to me straight away as my mother loved charity shops and had an array of beautiful clothes which I'll be selling as well as other donations”.
“She spoke on Live 95fm encouraging others to support local charity stores. She also held a similar event in 2018 where she raised over €500 for Grow Ireland and mental health awareness”.
