LIMERICK gardai are continuing to check on people during the cold snap and two gardai have come to the rescue of an elderly couple from a remote area in west County Limerick.
Sgt Dave Callanan and Sgt Barry O'Brien from Newcastle West received a call from an elderly couple from Athea yesterday who were snowed in and couldn't leave their home.
The gardai's 4x4 could barely make it through the snow but they managed to clear a path with shovels at 2am.

Taking to social media, An Garda Síochána Limerick said: "Thankfully, everyone was okay and we have arranged for further visits. If you find yourself in an emergency. dial 999 or 112. We will get to you no matter what time of day it is."
Meanwhile, the gardai have also been out helping St Munchin's Community Centre's Meals on Wheels to deliver much needed hot meals and supplies to people in Limerick and parts of Clare that are isolated by this spell of freezing weather.
If you need any help or support call the gardai. It's very helpful if you can check-in with any elderly or vulnerable neighbours in your area to make sure they're okay.
