A LIMERICK homelessness charity has confirmed the departure of their long-serving chief executive.

The Mid-West Simon Community, which has premises at Speakers Corner at Lower Carey’s Road in the city centre, has, for the last 10 years been headed up by Jackie Bonfield.

However, in a statement, the charity’s board of trustees confirmed that she has stepped down from her role as chief executive.

“Jackie joined a small organisation and was responsible for growing it to the almost 100-strong team that it has today, providing substantial services across the Mid-West region.  Jackie achieved this with vision and a relentless commitment to meeting the needs of the community that Mid-West Simon Community services,” they said.

A search for a replacement for Ms Bonfield in the role of chief executive has now kicked off.

The directors promised to issue a further update once the position of the chief executive has been filled.
