My week with Celia Holman Lee: Throwback to Culture Night!

Oh what a night! We enjoyed a unique and intimate discussion with local fashion designers on Culture Night called Preserving The Past for The Future

STEPPING into October means things have quieted down a little for me this week, which I welcome, as it has been a crazy few months and I have been on the go non-stop!

Despite the fact I love my work and am ever-grateful for the opportunities with the Holman Lee Agency, I enjoy down-time with my family too, whenever I get a rare lull in my calendar.

This week, I have decided to reflect on Culture Night and the fashion event which we attended on the evening of September 20.

It deserves all the recognition it can get, for the wonderful local designers who are extraordinarily talented.

The event was a designer discussion called Presenting the Past for the Future, in Limerick City Library.

Holman Lee Agency models showcased creations of the four designers, Mary O’Sullivan, Ejay Griffin, Ber McNamara and Gregor Pituch, who spoke of the importance of preserving the craft and techniques for making unique, sustainable and forever garments.

They touched on themes such as inspiration, and being an independent maker, which in turn uncovered the difficulties they face, such as attracting customers.

The conversation was headed by the fabulous MC, Michelle Daly Hayes.

It was a live collection demo rather than a catwalk show, but I so enjoy immersive and intimate style sessions such as these. I find events as such widen perspectives, and we get a peek into the designers’ minds, from sketch to stage.

I also spoke briefly on the night about the need to promote and foster local talent, which is so important.

I would love to see more creative hub spaces in the city for interior designers, fashion designers and crafts people to work together in the city.

Although there are some, it would be wonderful to see the Mayor and the council look into more spaces like this.
