SHANNON RFC secured a precious 27-12 bonus point victory over local rivals Old Crescent in Division 2A of the Energia All-Ireland League at Thomond Park on Friday night.
Friday night's defeat sees Shannon sit in seventh place in the Division 2A table at the mid-point of the regular season.
Shannon trailed their local rivals 5-12 at half-time in Friday night's derby, their first half points coming courtesy of an Adam Moloney try shortly before the break.
Visitors Old Crescent had raced into a more than useful 12-0 lead after the opening half an hour, with Jeff Williams landing four penalty goals.
Shannon drew level 10 minutes into the second half as Jamie Conway crossed for a try with Gavin adding the extras.
The home side hit the front on the hour mark when Gavin converted a penalty award for 15-12.
Shannon went on score 22 unanswered points in all in the second half as Matt Te Pou touched down in the 70th minute, while the Parish side secured the bonus point when bagging a fourth try from a well-executed maul late on. Jamie Gavin also added the extras for good measure.
