GARRYOWEN FC made a winning start to the 2025/2026 Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup when defeating local rivals Old Crescent 29-15 in their first round meeting at Takumi Park on Friday night.

All-Ireland League Division 1B side Garryowen scored four tries in all, two in each half, to secure victory over last season's Munster Senior Cup finalists. The Light Blues' reward is an away date with UCC in the quarter-finals of the Cup.

Garryowen laid the foundation for their win in the opening half after which the visitors led 17-3.

The Dooradoyle side took the lead with a Lachlan Stewart penalty before Glen Kelly replied with a penalty goal for AIL Division 2A side Crescent for 3-3.

Tries from Gordon Wood and Fionn Rowsome, both converted by Stewart, helped Garryowen into their 14-point interval lead.

Garryowen stretched clear with second half tries from Jonathan Byrne and Andrew Sexton, both converted by Stewart, to lead 29-3.

To their credit, Old Crescent finished the game strongly with tries from Daithi Byrnes and captain Niall Hardiman. Aaron Cosgrove converted the first of those tries, but Garryowen had done enough to book their last eight place.
