Limerick man takes coaching role with Ireland Club XV for international fixture

A LIMERICK man is included in the Ireland Club XV coaching team which will play the Portugal 'A' side in Lisbon.

The Ireland Club XV squad, sponsored by Energia, will travel to Lisbon in March of next year to play a Portugal ‘A’ side.

Young Munster head coach Ger Slattery will take on the roles of scrum and defence coach with the Ireland Club XV squad for the international fixture.

Slattery, a former Ireland club international, will be involved with the Club XV side management team for the first time.

The Energia International Club team will repeat last season’s successful trip, and play the Portugal A side on Friday, March 14, 2025 in Lisbon with a 5pm kick off.

Slattery represented Munsters' as a player for 15 consecutive seasons and was assistant coach for seven seasons before being appointed head coach at Clifford Park in 2023/2024 season.

A dynamic hooker, Slattery has gained a wealth of experience in his playing days, representing a hugely successful Ireland U20’s side, as well as Ireland Clubs XV, Munster Rugby and the Barbarians.

The former club captain at Clifford Park, Limerick man Slattery won four Munster Senior Cup titles, one as a player and three as a coach.

The Ireland Club XV side, which will be made up of some of the most exciting players competing in the Energia All-Ireland League, will play at Agronomia Rugby Club in Lisbon.

The Club XV side's new-look coaching team also includes with Ballynahinch’s Adam Craig who is taking on the role of head coach, while the lineout coach is Emmet MacMahon.

McMahon currently acts as Director of Rugby at UCD and this will be his second outing with the Irish Clubs XV
