HOLDERS Garryowen open the defence of their Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup title this Friday evening when hosting local rivals Young Munster in a group fixture at Dooradoyle, 7.30pm.
The 14 teams competing in this season's Bank Of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup are split into four groups. Groups are seeded according the club's finishing positions in the energia All-Ireland League.
Joining Garryowen and Young Munster in Group 2 are UCC.
The Group 1 action will see Shannon RFC host Cork Constitution on Saturday next, August 31, in Coonagh at 2.30pm.
Also included in Group 1 are Highfield RFC as well as Nenagh Ormond RFC.
The opening round fixtures in Group 3 includes the meeting of UL-Bohemian and Cashel at Annacotty on Saturday afternoon, 2.30pm kick-off.
Also in Group 3 on Saturday, Bruff make the trip to South Tipperary to take on Clonmel on Saturday, also 2.30pm kick-off.
The opening round Group 4 fixtures next weekend includes the meeting of Old Crescent and Dolphin at Takumi Park on Saturday afternoon, 2.30pm.
The three-team Group 4 also includes Midleton RFC. The second round of Group fixtures are due to take place on the following weekend, ending September 7.
The final series of group games are scheduled to take place on the week-ending Saturday, November 23. The group winners in each of the four groups will advance to the 2024/2025 Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup.
An open draw will then take place to determine the semi-final pairings.
