THE LIMERICK senior camogie side open their All-Ireland championship campaign this weekend. Limerick take on champions Cork in the opening round of the All-Ireland senior camogie championship at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday at 4pm.

Joe Quaid's Limerick side produced a spirited performance against Tipperary in their Munster quarter-final last month before bowing out. Despite the defeat, there were still plenty of positives for Quaid and his management team to take from that display against Tipperary. This weekend the Shannonsiders’ will face a massive test against the reigning All-Ireland champions.

The ‘Rebels’ have been the stand-out team in the country over the last number of years. Cork have won the last two All-Ireland camogie championship titles in 2023 and 2024.

Earlier this year, Ger Manley's side were crowned National League champions. Manley has drafted Limerick native Adrian O'Sullivan into his backroom team this year. O'Sullivan has replaced Cappamore native Liam Cronin as Cork camogie coach.

On Saturday May 31, Limerick will have their first home fixture against Wexford. Tipperary, Wexford and Clare are the other three teams in group one of the All-Ireland Championship.

Joe Quaid said: “You're meeting the All-Ireland champions, they were on a warm weather training camp a few weeks ago. That's the level we are trying to compete with. We can only prepare the girls and they can on y put in as much effort as they can.The response from the girls has been magnificent."

“Cork are probably going to be there or thereabouts at the top table for the next few years. We have to play in the championship that they are in. Every team can be beaten on an given day. All we can is be the best version of ourselves.”
Limerick bowed out of the Munster senior camogie championship after suffering a 4-13 to 0-10 quarter-final defeat to Tipperary at FBD Semple Stadium last month.

Karen Cunnigham and Sarah Cosgrove are both injury concerns this weekend. Both players have picked up hamstring injuries.
