LIMERICK fell to their second defeat in Division 1B of the Very camogie League when losing out by seven points, 2-11 to 0-10, to Wexford at St Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy on Saturday afternoon.

A battling first half display from Limerick left the Shannonsiders trailing by just one point, 0-6 to 2-1, at half-time.

However, Wexford outscored their visitors by 0-10 to 0-4 in the second half to claim the precious league points on offer.

Next up for the Joe Quaid-managed Limerick side is a round four meeting away to Clare on Saturday, March 15.

Home side Wexford got off to a dream start, scoring two goals in the opening minutes through Jessie Morrissey and Joanne Dillon. An Emma Tomkins point had the Leinster side seven points to the good, 2-1 to 0-0, before Limerick opened their account with a point from Shauna Cunningham.

Limerick then responded with five points in a row, with captain Caoimhe Costello in top form with her frees.

That left Wexford leading by a single point at half-time, 2-1 to 0-6.

Four points in quick succession pushed Wexford's one point interval lead into a five point advantage within seven minutes of the restart.

Limerick rallied with two points to leave three points between the sides.

The sides shared the next four points between them as the home side led 2-7 to 0-10 after 47 minutes.

Two pointed frees from Wexford's Joanne Dillon eased the home side into a five point lead by the 54th minute before a Sarah O’Connor point from play, and another Dillon free, had the Leinster side into a seven point advantage, 2-11 to 0-10.

That proved to be the final score as Limerick came up short in their bid to secure a second win in Division 1B.
