A POPULAR pub in the shadow of King John’s Castle has won Limerick City Tidy Towns’ latest award.
Katie Dalys heritage pub and kitchen based at Castle Street, just off Nicholas Street, won the group’s bi-monthly award for May and June.
Maura O’Neill said the voluntary group were impressed with the effort the owners went to following a significant renovation.
Following this, she said it’s become a “fabulous landmark pub and dining venue in the city, with its striking dark green exterior paintwork, traditional signage and of course colourful planting in the outside seating areas, which are a buzz of activity especially in summer months.”
The pub, which is popular with tourists and locals alike, received a special mention in the 2024 Tidy Towns adjudicators’ report for the city.
It left a good impression on the visiting adjudicator, and this too is why Limerick City Tidy Towns volunteers were keen to recognise the venue.
As well as having a traditional pub atmosphere, Katie Daly's also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
It hosts nightly live traditional music sessions and welcomes concert-goers since King John’s Castle became a top venue for music.
Munster fans heading to Thomond Park are also a common site.
Katie Dalys is Limerick City Tidy Town’s third winner for 2025 and will be in with a chance to be the overall champion for 2025.
So far, two other city centre businesses have been honoured - Crew Brew at Thomas Street took the January and February award, while O’Connell Menswear in Catherine Street took the spoils for March and April.
With summer now in full swing, City Tidy Towns volunteers meet up twice a week to give the city centre a clean-up. They are around Sundays from 11am at the Thomas Street-O’Connell Street junction and Wednesdays at 6pm outside the White House.
