A FOCUS was put on the skills involved in public speaking at a workshop with a difference.

Director, writer, actor and radio presenter Shirley Keane led a session attended by 40 local businesswomen at Greenhills Hotel on Limerick's northside.

It was organised by Network Ireland Limerick, a group for women in business and the arts.

Participants donned their activewear, and with yoga mats in hand, the workshop focused on helping women project their voices, anchor their breathing, and confidently connect with an audience.

Through exercises - including balloons and fun improvisation - attendees were gently brought out of their comfort zones, all while learning practical skills to boost their communication and presentation abilities.

Network Ireland Limerick president, soprano Eve Stafford, said: “Over the past year, I’ve really noticed how many of our members carry a real fear around public speaking. I wanted to create a safe, supportive space where we could break this
down together and give women practical tips they can apply straight away. Shirley was the perfect person to guide us - and we weren’t afraid to get a little silly along the way and embrace the fun games and activities! Stepping out of your comfort zone and leaving with renewed confidence and self-belief is invaluable in business.”

The event was also a valuable networking opportunity, with members connecting, laughing, and sharing their experiences.

Next week, Network Ireland Limerick will hold its businesswoman of the year awards.

Taking place at the Clayton Hotel, in the city centre on Friday, June 6, 38 finalists across eight categories will battle it out for the honour of going on to represent Limerick at the national Network Ireland awards in September.
