A WELL-KNOWN Limerick city pub has called last rounds for the final time and has shut up shop.
Clohessy’s Bar in Denmark St permanently closed on December 30 after nine years in business.
A popular spot in the heart of the city, owners issued a statement on Facebook saying that the closure was “regrettable”.
“We regret to announce that we will be closing permanently after Monday, December 30, 2024,” the statement reads.
“We would like to thank all of our customers over the last 9 years in business in Limerick city. A very Happy Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.”

Thanking their customers, the pub scheduled live music up until their closure “to enjoy the last days” prior to shutting their doors for the final time.
The post on social media garnered many well wishes and comments from the public, with many expressing their sadness.
One person wrote: “Sad to see it go, it [will] be missed big time”. Another simply said: “Very sad to see this”.
170 pubs in Limerick have reportedly closed since 2005.
This is another hit to business in the city as news of shops closing have also been announced, including that of clothes store White Feather Boutique at the end of January, also located on Denmark St near Clohessy’s, and skincare shop L'Occitane en Provence this February, on Thomas St.
A major hit to the city, too, was the closure of the International Rugby Experience which closed down on December 23, 2024.
